Where the spec-sheet number and the field number diverge.
U-bend T8 ballasts have their own compatibility list; check it before specifying Type A mode. The U-bend fixture geometry also means the ballast is often in a more confined space with higher ambient temperatures. Real-world U-bend installs in recessed 2×2 troffers can run 5–10°C hotter than open-troffer T8 installs, reducing practical L70 life by 10–15%. The published L70 number is the conservative TM-21 calculation at 35°C.
